Desna is a bellydance artist and instructor, based in Lancaster, Britain.
Desna currently offers private tuition, workshops for schools and community groups, and bellydance groups and events. She also regularly performs in Lancaster and further afield.
'Bellydance' or 'Belly dance' refers to a group of popular and professionalised dance forms from the Middle East regularly seen at parties, celebrations, nightclubs, theatres and hotels. Its name in Arabic is Raqs Sharqi, in Turkish it is referred to as Oryantal Dansı (both translate as 'Oriental Dance'), and in Greek, Tsifteteli.
Desna's training has mostly been in Egyptian / Arabic styles of bellydance and related folkloric dances.
In her teaching and performance, Desna's dance is accessible to all while remaining true to the roots of this rich and beautiful dance form.
